Covid 19 and WFH 1st Week

Like many workers, my company, has closed its doors to non essential workers.

All non essential workers are working from home, and now have to make the WFH the lifestyle. For most Technology Professionals, it is not a huge adjustment but it is an adjustment.

no rest for the wicked

No rest for the Software Engineers and technology professionals. There are obvious reasons why all I.T. professionals are being called upon to ensure, networks are performing, laptops are configured, applications are all successfully patched, and websites are up and redundant.

Typically, I.T. teams plan for such events, and have some awareness of potential threats such as Hurricanes, Snowstorms, etc, and have an idea of the timeline. In addition, such natural disasters are typically regional.

Hello Covid-19 – you’re coming in a little different. But as with any challenge, there’s always opportunities to do something innovative.

So as we start this new journey, one major observation is the lack of interaction with co-workers and teammates. Yes, there is a lot of social interactions at work, but the social interactions is where relationships, trust, and communication styles are typically established. In my role, I have to interact with individuals from various backgrounds, experience levels, and occasionally ‘new’ individuals on new projects. Again, it is not impossible to engage in such a way, but it does take extra steps to facilitate purposeful engagement and success.

I’ll make some additional post as we progress into the future and the management of Covid. Would love to get feedback on ideas, and methods you are using to stay productive individually and within teams

Stay safe!
